and how does the fight go. 15 rounds.

If you have it going the distance, does your result change if the fight is over 25 rounds?

  1. I favor Marciano in this matchup.

In Jeffries footage he often relied on grabbing and clinches. Using his bigger/heavier size to wear down a opponent. And sometimes "cruised" through rounds to let a foe to wear himself down (smart, yes), but I dont think this would work on a good in-fighter like Marciano.

Jeffries went 20 rds. with a smaller Ruhlin for a dec.

20 rds. dec. with a way smaller Choynski

15 rds. with a now out of prime,layed-over Corbett (was still COMPLETLY outboxed) All either busted Jeffries up or gave him tough battles, and some being smaller guy's.

Yet Rocky took it to the great KO artist Archie Moore, and the brilliant Ezzard Charles.

I see, maybe,  both men being down at least once in this bout. Marciano having possibly the slight edge in speed, power being close(Marciano overall being more numbing.) Stamina I give to rock, minus the clinching/holding, with the will, heart and relentlessness going to Rocky.

Galactus-You have Rocky beating Jeffries but Dempsey possibly not ?  "Jeffries a GOOD chance to ko Jack Dempsey" (?) Any and everything Jim had, Jack had better of and then some Jeffries did'nt have. Lets see...Jack was way faster, far better footwork (watch Dempsey-Bill Tate, outstanding footwork.) better mobility, came in from angles, crouched like Jeffries, BUT, bobbed and weaved coming in and out from the croutch and all the while throwing punches (combo. punches.) Mixing it up with head AND body. Dempsey had the power Jeffries had, BUT had had ko power in BOTH hands, ANY punch, from ANY angle. Dempsey was the more skilled and versatile fighter. A chance to ko Dempsey, maybe (?), but not a good one. The good chance favors Dempsey.

  2. Rock KO's Jeffries, with relative ease.  Two different classes of fighter, James J Jeffries reminds me a lot of today's heavyweights, big and strong with little skill.  Marciano was a genuinely hard man, and and all time great champion.  Jeffries was simply the best of his era for a while, good but not great and no where near the level of Marciano.

    Rock by KO.

  3. marciano is rated higher than jeffries by most, and is a harder puncher.

both are relentless in their pursuit of an opponent (prey?), and both have granite chins, and both are always in great shape (the jack johnson fight notwithstanding).

this could be another zale - graziano, or duran - barkley, or hagler - hearns.....but i am gonna pick marciano to take a decision over 15 rounds, or in a 25 rounder he'll kayo jeffries around the 15 round mark.

  4. It would be a tough fight but i think that rocky marciano would win this one, both fighters had remarkable chins and a lot of heart but marciano had knock out power in both hands and his punches hurt a A LOT! he could take a lot of punishment from jeffries but i really doubt that jeffries would be able to take that much punishment from rocky marciano,  jeffries would probably go down around the eleventh round......he could go down earlier if marciano catches a clean shot at his face but jeffries had a good defense so that might not happen so easily.

  5. Big Jeff has the size and strength to trouble even today's gargantuian heavyweights.  Many have proven that you dont have to be KIng Kong to get the job done.   I give Jeffries a good chance to KO Jack Dempsey.  Of course Dempsey could always do the same to Jeff.  Jack has faster hands.

I think Jeffries would be made to order for Marciano.  His size would not trouble Rocky that much.  For once, Rocky might actually have an edge in speed over an opponent.   Jeffries has never faced a fighter the caliber or style of Rocky Marciano.  How do you cope with this smaller man when you're punching down on him and not hurting him.    Some would have an answer for that.   Jeff would not.

Jeffries would trouble some who might even beat Marciano.  But he would'nt trouble Rocky much.  Big Jeff could score a knockdown but he would'nt keep Rocky down.   He would absorb a terrible body beating.  Though Jeff could certainly take it on the chin,  NO one ever hit him the way Rocky would.  Rocky is not the hardest puncher in history but he's certainly one of them.  He'd punch hard enough to get the job done here.

    Marciano by KO in 14

  6. Rocky Marciano will win even over 25 rounds.

  7. Jefferies wins both fights.....As great as Rocky was, nobody had Jim's stamina as evidenced by his war with Tom Sharkey. Jefferies was an avid outdoorsman who once shot a 100 + pound deer deep in the woods. Jim threw the deer over his shoulders & ran 7 miles back to his camp. He broke the ribs of Tom Sharkey, Bob Fitzsimmons & Jim Corbett when he fought them. Jefferies later offered to fight Sharkey, Fitz & Corbett all in one night and they turned down his offer !!!
