Rocky season on the back of Huston Street’s mind in Spring Training
If there’s one thing on Huston Street’s mind this year it’s being healthy this season. The top closer for the Colorado Rockies is looking to do better this year and work out his aspirations with his health.
The bullpen ace star has a lot to look forward to and his role in the club will be the same as the last two years’. He will be asked to perform and there will be more chances to convert games to wins than last year.
The closer was part of the Rockies line-up last year that thwarted 30 games, which needed a one run save. Street was available in two-thirds of those chances. The closer missed 69 games at the start of the season due to a shoulder problem that developed
during the 2010 Spring Training period.
His stay on the disabled list was prolonged by a Minor League injury sustained in the groin area.
The player blew 5 chances of his 25 last year. He lost focus in those games and pitched badly. Most of his games worked badly on the last hitter, as suggested by manager, Jim Tracy.
In 2009, Street amassed 35 wins from 37 games, which got the club to the World Series, and signed on a three year deal worth $22.5 million. Though the pressure is high, the player will not repeat the mistakes from last year.
"I will always look at it as you win as a team", Street said. "If we had won a world championship, was I going to take all the credit? No. Look at the year Carlos Gonzalez had, and the one Troy Tulowitzki had. Ubaldo Jimenez was really big for us. If we
win 92 games, I'm not going to have 92 saves.
My role is important, but at the same time it comes down to all of us doing our job. That's what makes the Rockies so fun to show up and play for. We don't blame someone when we lose”.
Streets will try to stay healthy this time around. Last year, he over exercised and strained his shoulders by exerting too much energy. His focus now will be on staying healthy.
