Rod Barajas ends a nail biting match in the ninth inning by hitting a two-run homer and winning the match for the Pittsburgh Pirates over Washington Nationals 5-4 in PNC Park, Pittsburgh, PA on May 8.
It was the first home-run for Barajas of this season and nailed it into the seats to the left off Washington closer Henry Rodriguez. He almost slipped in excitement when he was rounding first base before his team jumped over him with joy. Barajas had a hard
time settling in during the seventh inning when he was struggling with his feet and gave a pop-up which was not liked by the crowd.
Nationals were in control of the game in the ninth before Barajas hit the homer. Adam LaRoche scored two-runs off the Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan and put his team into the lead 4-3. Alex Presley singled in the ninth inning on couple of wild pitches before
Barajas could finish the game.
Edwin Jackson, starter for the Washington Nationals pitched seven innings and gave three hits and conceded two runs during the match whereas Pirates starter Allan James Burnett pitched eight innings giving six hits and conceding two score.
The first home run was hit in the third inning of the match to the right by Wilson Ramos giving the Nationals the lead 1-0. The lead continued when Rick Ankiel singled to the right. Andrew McCuchen scored the first run for his team by hitting the home run
to centre. This was his first home run of this season followed by Garrett Jones fourth home run off this season. Niel Walker sacrificed for his team by giving a fly ball off Tyler Clippard and putting his team into the lead 3-2 in the eighth inning.
Nationals are placed at the number one spot in the National League East winning 18 games and losing 11 games so far this season.
This crucial victory will give a huge boost to the Pirates and they will try to keep that momentum in their next game against the Nationals in the second match of three match series. Nationals will try their level best to even out the series and continue
their impressive stats this season.
