Rod Findlay announces his resignation from position at crisis-hit club: Rugby League
Crusaders’ Chief Executive, Rod Findlay has announced his resignation from his office at crisis-hit club Wednesday, September 14.
This was already expected as the financial constrained franchise had pulled itself out of the Super League licensing process for the games until 2014.This last minute withdrawal from the licensing process had angered and shocked the Crusaders’ outfit itself too, but the financial status of the franchise justified the club’s move.
As Crusaders’ had pulled themselves out of the future in Super League for three years, this automatically gave way to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, who were not very hopeful of their stay at the super League palette.
However, since this announcement the players and the coaching crew, everyone at Crusaders’ were worried about their future employments. This led to a constant outflux of players and coaches from their long term club.
Findlay is also a link of that chain which has initiated after the devastating announcement from Crusaders. Before he joined in with the Crusaders as their chief last December, Findlay was serving in the capacity of the in-house lawyer for Rugby Footballl League (RFL).
Crusader’s coach, Iestyn Harris along with many other players have officially terminated their stint with the club. The last game played by Crusaders under Harris was on last Friday, against Wigan Warriors, which did not end up in their favour, because they ended up with the wooden spoon status.
Findlay has filed Crusaders in with the RFL, for the Championship 2012 but the application is still under process.
His decision will not be influenced by the verdict of RFL, as he has confirmed his exit from the club either ways.
While speaking about his exit Findlay added, "It is a great regret that the owners decided to withdraw the Super League application because we were building something really good on and off the pitch.North Wales is an area that has taken rugby league to its heart. There is a lot of local support and some prominent local people pushing for a club under new ownership in 2012. This needs to be locally led with everyone getting behind a sustainable club.I have pledged to buy a season ticket if the club survives."
He also promised to offer support and advice for club's future endeavours, but felt that the timing for him and the club to part ways is perfect.
It was apparent from Findlay’s farewell note that his decision of quitting his term with the club was influenced by owner’s decision to withdraw from the super League games until the end of 2014. However, he wishes his club to survive through this rough patch in its history and reach back to its glory years.
