Rod Lawler all set to face Graeme Dott in second round 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament
England’s Rod Lawler performed brilliantly in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament coming straight to the televised stages of the tournament against Stephen Maguire at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China. Lawler performed brilliantly in the first round
against Maguire and was able to defeat the Scotsman by the score line of 5-1 to set up second round clash of another Scottish potter Graeme Dott.
The Englishman dominated the first round game against Maguire from the beginning with some excellent snooker display. The first session of the match finished in Lawler’s favour by the score line of 3-1. At that point, it seemed that Lawler will push the
Scot easily towards the defeat but things changed in the second session.
Maguire sprang back with impressive game to pull level at 4-4 which dragged the match into the decisive set where a classy clearance of 77 points brought him on top with 5-1 score line. The Englishman was quite happy to see the playing environment at the
Wuxi Sports Center.
While speaking to World Snooker, Lawler said, “The venue's absolutely excellent. The tables and the conditions are playing really well. So I'm really happy to be here and I'm really honoured to play as well as I have played in that match as well. Hopefully
I can keep on enjoying the tournament.”
Lawler is all set to face the former World Snooker Championship winner, Scotland’s Dott who defeated China’s Zhou Yuelong in the initial round by 5-1 scores.
Lawler spoke, “It's just one game at a time and I'm just delighted to be playing against Graeme because at 4-4 and 39 behind it didn't look like I would be playing against him. It's a bonus really, Graeme's as tough as they come so I'll just try and enjoy
the occasion again.”
Lawler was placed in the first round of the qualifying session and he made it to the televised stages of the tournament only on the basis of mere determination and hard work. After winning four qualifier matches, he surged into the Wild Card round where
he ousted the Chinese cueman Li Hang by the score line of 5-2 to set up Maguire match
