Rod Lawler satisfied with his current performance in new snooker season
New snooker season had a tremendous start with the launch of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament as a major ranking snooker tournament and first event of 2012 Asian Players Tour Championship (APTC). Top 16 players from around the world were challenged by
the rookies who managed to make their way into the professional tour.
These rookies included 12 faces who qualified through the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School). England’s Rod Lawler was also one of those cuemen who cruised into the pro tour after qualifying from Q School. The Englishman showed great performance
in the tournament’s third event and claimed the pro tour ticket after winning the quarter-final clash against Joe Delaney by the score line of 4-0.
Lawler placed himself in the first round of the qualifying session of 2012 Wuxi Classic. He breezed into the first stage of the event clinching four qualifiers and a wild card round. The Englishman was impressive at the Wuxi Sports Center arena baize and
hit the second round but lost there. Making a superb start in the 2012-13 Snooker Season boosted Lawler’s confidence and he is feeling quite satisfied with his season start.
While speaking to the Pro Snooker Blog during an interview, Lawler said, “I am using a new shaft on my cue this season and I was using it for the last three events last season. Maybe that gave me a little bit of confidence and maybe starting the season with
so many matches under my belt, run into a few players who are a little bit short of match practice and that has worked in my favour.”
He added, “But the matches I have won against Liang Wenbo, Jamie Jones and against Stephen Maguire, I have played well, Against Peter Ebdon I played well in UKPTC1, so I am really happy with my current form, it has been really good.”
Lawler played sensibly in the qualifying session of the 2012 Shanghai Masters snooker event but was unable to make it to the televised stages. However, he still has chances to improve his ranking position through the 2012 World Snooker European Tour.
