Rod Lawler supports World Snooker Q School: 2012-13 Snooker Season
Snooker governing body across the globe, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) launched a new event of World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) for the rookies to earn a place in the professional circuit. The tournament received
a lot of appreciation from the critics as well as the players from around the world.
So far, the event has completed two events in the previous two seasons and has featured some new talent which is putting up an excellent performance in the professional circuit. The last year’s World Snooker Q School also featured 12 potters who grabbed
a two-year pro tour ticket. England’s Rod Lawler was one of the cuemen who earned a place in the professional tour for the next two years.
The Englishman participated in all three events of the series and was able to claim the quarter-final victory in the third tournament. The English potter defeated Ireland’s Joe Delaney in the quarters by the score line of 4-0. He played tremendously in the
first clash but failed to qualify for the pro tour as he crashed out of the event at the hands of Ian Burns in the quarter-final round.
Lawler supports the concept of World Snooker Q School as he believes the venture is a great opportunity for the new generation to prove their talent to the world.
While speaking to Pro Snooker Blog during an interview, Lawler said, “I’m supportive of it, I’m not critical, but the one thing I would say is that it is just the pressure that builds, from the first event to the second and then to the last event.”
He added, “I played some smashing players in it, good players for the future who I really rate. It just shows how strong the Q School is. But on a whole, it’s a very fair system to give people a chance to get on tour in one hit and then if they are on tour
they know where they stand for two years.”
Lawler has started his new season campaign with some convincing performance in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event and the Players Tour Championship (PTC). His next target will be the 2012 World Snooker European Tour.
