Rod Pampling finishes tied second at the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola
Rod Pampling missed out on a chance of winning the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola, after faltering on the last three holes in the final round, on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
The tournament was being played at the Palmer Coolum Resort, featuring some of the prominent names on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
Pampling came flying out of the blocks by carding birdies on each of the first six holes that he played. He then parred the remaining three holes on the front nine of the course to reach the turn in six-under.
The back nine of the course also witnessed him mark a decent start, as he parred each of the first two holes, prior to recording a birdie putt on the 12th hole.
Entering the 16th hole, he was leading Daniel Popovic by one stroke. However, the Queensland’s veteran star failed to keep the momentum going into the final moments, and lost four shots on the last three holes that he played.
He bogeyed the 16th and the 17th hole, prior to conceding a double bogey on the 18th hole, to slip down to the tied second place on the leaderboard.
Talking to the reporters after completing his round, he expressed his disappointment in finishing poorly in the tournament.
In the meantime, he also said that he was pleased to regain the confidence, and plans to maintain consistency in his game, in a bid to perform better in the upcoming season.
"I just tried to seal it, it just didn't work out that way ... as much as it hurts after being I guess one (stroke) ahead, it's still nice to build on that and definitely get some confidence for next year," Pampling said.
"Obviously you come down to win in Australia, it's a great spot to get the confidence back. Obviously the fields aren't quite as deep, but it is a great spot to get that confidence back that you need to perform in the States,” he added.
He is now scheduled to participate in the Wynnum pro-am, prior to flying back to the United States on Tuesday.
