Roddick seeks fifth title at the AEGON Championships in hopes of making history
Andy “A-Rod” Roddick is going to make his tenth appearance at the 2011 AEGON Championships where he will try his best to make history as he aims to win his fifth title at Queen’s Club.
The fight for the 2011 AEGON Championships Queen’s Club title will start from 6-12 June.
Roddick will only be able to make his win possible if he succeeds in defeating world No.1 Rafael Nadal and world No.3 Novak Djokovic on his favorite surface. Reported to have said on one occasion, Roddick said, “Queen’s has the best grass courts in the world, they play perfectly and so the AEGON Championships is a great way to prepare for Wimbledon."
Unveiling his prior Queen’s Club performances, A-Rod has lifted the trophy here on five occasions, winning the final match in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2007. Roddick is one of few players to have won the title four times.
When asked about his previous performances at Queen’s Club, Roddick said, “Over the years I’ve had a lot of success at The Queen’s Club, it has real tradition and I love the whole month in London”
The only American inside the ATP Top 10, Roddick made his last appearance at the AEGON Championships in 2010 when he lost to Israeli Dudi Sela in the third round.
His next major stop after the AEGON Championships was the 2010 Wimbledon Open where he once again failed to make it past in the fourth round losing the match against Yen-Hsun Lu of Taiwan in 4 hours and 36 minutes.
Roddick wrapped up 2010 ranked eighth in the world, his eighth straight year finish in the top 10. The Texan native won his first ever Grand Slam title at the 2003 US Open, and has made three time appearances in the Wimbledon finals.
Fully recovered, A-rod is once again recording top performances, looking to climb up in the rankings. The American won his first title in 2011 in Memphis couple of weeks ago when he defeated Milos Raonic. His next stop was the Davis Cup where he led Team America to defeat Team Chile in the first round of the World Group. A-Rod stood victorious in his both singles rubbers defeating Nicolas Massu and Paul Capedeville.
