It’s hard to argue with that sort of track record – but as Marcos Baghdatis showed in securing his first win against Roger Federer in seven matches, past records alone don’t guarantee victory. Roddick though is playing well, and Melzer enters the fourth round after a walkover win in his previous match so it’s hard to see Roddick’s perfect record against the 22nd seed being marred by its first blemish here.
