Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers moved to dispel the impression that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Gomel-c39117 on Thursday had reasons other than concerns about his fitness.
The Danish International’s future at the Merseyside club is currently rife with speculations, after the 27-year old was omitted from the Reds squad for the game against the Belarusian side.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 had cited the defender’s fitness issues as the reason behind his absence from the game. However, the player’s agent Per Steffensen revealed after the match that his client was not suffering from any injuries whatsoever, and had confirmed his availability
to the management before the game.
His representative’s revelation has only served to give further air to the rumours surrounding the Danish national skipper, as he had been already linked to making a switch to Manchester City during the summer.
According to some reports, the Eastlanders have already seen one of their offers for the player get spurned by the Merseyside outfit.
With Agger’s future apparently marred by rumours and surmises, the Anfield boss insisted that the defender’s non-appearance against Gomel solely owed to his fitness problems. He highlighted the fact that Agger has remained susceptible to injuries throughout
his career, and he was not willing to risk overexerting him, as he was also on international duty for his country during the European Championships.
While talking to reporters, Rodgers said: “The plan was always for Daniel to stay behind. Everyone knows his history of injuries. He came back to pre-season training after everyone else and is still not up to speed.”
“He is fit but I have to make sure he is up to speed before he plays, because everyone knows his history with injuries.”
Even though lot has been said about the centre back’s future, it is highly likely that he will refrain from parting ways with Liverpool this summer. The notion was confirmed by his agent earlier, who unravelled that his client was currently happy at Anfield,
and turned down the reports that he had filed a transfer request to the club.
Agger has still got two years left on his contract with the Reds.
