http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss, Brendan Rodgers has played down the idea that Andy Carroll cannot come to grips with his possession-retaining playing style which he is looking to introduce at Anfield, and termed him a ‘terrific talent’.
The Northern Irishman also believed that the Reds 35 million pounds striker has remained a subject of unfair criticism throughout the last season, and that he can contribute in any team in more than one way.
The English International’s future is currently hanging in the balance, after the Reds boss admitted that he was willing to consider the option of selling the striker on a permanent deal.
However, Rodgers has already ruled out the option of sending him out on a loan spell, and rejected offers from Newcastle United, Fulham and West Ham United in this regard.
With the transfer window set to close on the 31st of August, the former Swansea manager rubbished the talks linking the player’s proposed move from Anfield to his incompatibility with his playing style, and revealed that he will hold meetings
with Carroll in the coming days to discuss his future.
While talking to reporters, he said: “Andy is a terrific young player. I had a brief chat with all the lads and over the next couple of weeks I'll be able to speak to them with more confidence and on a one-to-one basis. There is no doubt he is a terrific
talent.”
Following his goal famine in the previous term, which saw him claim just 9 scalps in 47 appearances, the 23-year old was subjected to severe criticism for failing to justify his whooping price tag.
However, the manager insisted that the player’s disparagement over his last season performances was unjustified, claiming that he is a versatile player who can play in multiple positions.
He then went on to say that he does not intend on overhauling the Reds current playing style under his tenure, and was planning on playing to his team’s strengths.
“For me, your game is based on your players, the players you have. I am here to win games. We've got a number of very, very talented players in the group.”
