http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss, Brendan Rodgers, believes it is crucial for the Reds to hold on to Luis Suarez for a long period, claiming that he wouldn’t swap the striker for any player in the world.
The Uruguayan International holds a key position in the Reds squad. He is currently the highest goal scorer for the Merseyside club with 10 scalps this season.
He arrived at Anfield from the Dutch side Ajax for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of 22 million pounds. Since then, he has been the spearhead of the team’s attack, also ending up as the highest goal scorer for Liverpool in the prevenient term.
Although the mercurial striker was under the gaze of scores of managers from across Europe during the summer window, he refused to part ways with the Reds, instead striking a new long-term deal earlier in the season.
In a campaign marked by the inability of his team-mates to make an impression, Suarez has, at times, single-handedly led the Reds charge upfront.
However, Rodgers has called upon his side to lift the pressure off the 25-year old by stepping up their performances.
He believed it was pertinent that the entire unit started delivering, rather than relying too much on Suarez, and eke out results in order to compel the striker to stay at Anfield for many more years.
“Great players will always leave great clubs, that's happened in the past and will in the future,” the Ulsterman told the reporters in an interview.
“It's up to us to add players that can help support Luis and move us on.”
“I have had great support from Luis since I've been here. He has really bought into what we are trying to do and our objective has to be to keep the best players.”
“I wouldn't swap him for anyone. This is a guy whose energy is relentless - he is a defender's nightmare.”
The former Swansea City chief further praised the attacker for his unfaltering commitment towards Liverpool, pointing out that he could have easily used the team’s poor form and the arrival of a new manager as reasons to decamp from Anfield.
