Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers, has reminded his side of the illustrious history of the Merseyside club, urging them not to consider a fourth-place finish as a huge achievement.
The 39-year old unravelled his bold aim of catching up on the second placed Manchester City whom the Reds trail by 11 points. However, he admitted that his side were not in a position to mount a challenge for the title as yet.
The Anfield outfit have mustered 22 points from their 16 matches, but have been one of the better teams in the competition over the last couple of months. They have only succumbed to a single defeat – that against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane –
in their last 11 fixtures, amassing 20 points during this period. It has now left them at a margin of 4 points from the fourth spot, with a couple of relatively easy games coming up over the next couple of weeks.

“I want to reinforce that it isn’t just about fourth place for this club,” he told the reporters.
“This club is bigger than that. We might not arrive there this season and when you’ve been out of the top four so long that is an ambition, but everyone is talking about arriving in fourth position when there is not that big a difference between us and third.”
“We are 11 points off second. We have still to play Manchester City and should have beaten them at home.”
Nonetheless, the 39-year old went on to admit that there was no way Liverpool could catch up with leaders, Manchester United, insisting that they still need to go a long way before they can compete for the title.
