The victory enabled the Merseyside outfit to top Group A on virtue of better goal difference. They collected 10 points from their six matches. Anzhi Makhachkala are the other team who have qualified from the group, despite suffering a 3-1 defeat to Young
Boys on the same night.

The win also allowed Rodgers’ troops to satisfy their taste of revenge, having seconded by Udinese in their earlier group match 3-2 at Anfield.

Nonetheless, the Anfield boss praised the way his side responded to such a critical game.
The 39-year old expressed his elation on having qualified for the next stage of the competition, and was in awe for the youngsters for making the most of the opportunity afforded to them and rising up to the challenge.
“When you're 17, 18, 19 and 20 years of age like some of them are, this is a big learning curve. Our challenge is to make them better players and educate them in the game. They have done well tonight,” he told the reporters.
“We were in a difficult group with good teams - teams with good Champions League experience and one of the richest teams in the world.”
Henderson, who was condemned to the bench by Rodgers in the preliminary stages of the campaign, has made a swift comeback, making a couple of starts in the previous month.
And after having finally ended his goal drought, the Ulsterman could not help but praise the hard work that the English International has put recently.
“He is a great lad. He works very, very hard and he's come in over the last month or so and made a good contribution to the team,” he added.
