The boss at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers, is keeping the Premier League as his top priority this season, but insisted that his side will give it their all in all the competitions.
The Northern Irishman took over the management of the Merseyside club during the summer, following their calamitous previous campaign.
After having failed to secure a Champions League berth for the third season on the bounce, the Reds are desperate to put up a much improved show this time around.
Even though the club went on a remarkable run in the domestic cup competitions, their overall campaign was deemed to be a failure by many, keeping in view their below par performance in the league.
Liverpool finished the last term at an abysmal eighth place.
With the Reds set to take on the Young Boys on Thursday night in their Europa League group stage opener, Rodgers revealed that his top priority was to guide his team to an impressive league campaign.
However, he was not willing to take the other tournaments lightly, and feels they will provide a good opportunity for the youngsters to prove their mettle.
“There's no doubt the Premier League is our number one priority -- but I see this tournament as an opportunity,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“I've brought young players [here] who I feel, from what I have seen in the early part of the season, can come in and contribute. I know they've got talent, the question now is can they come into the first team and fight? That's what we're looking for.”
The Ulsterman may have limited resources to contend with, as he looks to revive the current gloomy state of affairs at Anfield. To make up for that, he is keen on utilizing the talents of the younger players in the squad and is confident that they will be
able to step up to the plate.
However, the manger is also wary of not falling in the trap of doing away with the senior players. Instead, he believes that a good blend of experience and youth is the perfect remedy for the Reds to come out of their slum.
“The balance has to be right; we have young players here, who are exciting, and we have experienced players who have played a great role for me at the football club,”
