The boss at Anfield, Brendan Rodgers, has insisted that Luis Suarez’s harsh criticism by different players and managers over the diving scandal was unjustified.
The Northern Irishman pointed out that there were a whole lot of athletes who were performing illegitimate stunts to win the decisions in their favour. Hence, he lashed out at the striker’s critics for singling him out on the matter.
Suarez, who has remained a subject of controversy since his move to the Premier League in January 2011, has been vituperated by players and managers alike for going down to the ground deliberately in order to win penalties and free-kicks.
Earlier, the Stoke City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Pulis, had labelled the player as a cheat, calling on the Football Association to ban him for his fraudulent actions.
His remarks were further echoed by the Swansea City captain, Ashley Williams, who mentioned in his recently published book that he hated playing against Suarez, and that the striker thinks too much of himself.
Anyhow, Rodgers, once again, spoke out in favour of the 25-year old. The Ulsterman observed that Suarez was not the only one who was involved in wrongdoings in Europe, claiming that there were myriad players who were guilty of diving.
However, he said that his forward was being targeted more for his bad fame, something which he feels needs to stop immediately.
“Luis Suarez was held up as the only one that seemed to be doing it. Whenever many other players were doing it, both British and European, it seemed to go very quiet,” he told the reporters.
“It's something that is the responsibility of the players. The managers can only guide and give their opinion to the players. I've seen it at all levels - the Premier League, reserve games, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/U-17-Youth-team-c40787 games and some kids football.”
“You see it now becoming a part of the game but it's certainly something we want to eradicate.”
The manager then spared some time to criticize the fans behaviour in the closing stages of the Manchester derby, in which they hurled coins at the United players, but refused to accept the suggestion of using nets around the pitch.
