Brendan Rodgers insists that the team will try their best to qualify for a top five spot at the end of this season but has admitted that an absence of the team from Europe could be a blessing in disguise. He insists that there
is good chance that the team will fight again next season to qualify for a place in the UEFA Champions League.
“We really enjoyed the European football this season after it had been missing for a year and I know the supporters love the travel. But you could argue that a season free of European football would give us a greater chance of
finishing in a much higher position in the league - of competing for the top four which is a really difficult task with the teams up there and the finances involved,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the former Swansea City manager added that the players are keen to play in the best competition in Europe and there is a great chance that the team might end up in the top four next season.
The boss stated that the side is trying its best to qualify for a place in Europe but there is also a chance that the team might not reach the top five as the competition is immensely tough.
"We would love to be in there and we want to finish as high as we possibly can, but it won't be the end of the world if we don't qualify for Europe. If it doesn't happen then it could end up being a blessing for us,” he concluded.
Liverpool will next take on Reading in the English Premier League in a bid to increase their chances of a top five finish.
