The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC manager admitted that the opposition were too good for his side as the Reds suffered their eighth loss of the league campaign
Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat at Anfield and are virtually out of the top four race with the defeat. They had a great chance to lessen the gap on Tottenham Hotspur, but they failed to do so with another dismal performance.
Brendan Rodgers insisted that his side gave their all but the opposition played brilliantly. He hailed West Brom for defending sensationally well and is targeting a string comeback against Swansea City next week.
The manager stressed that Liverpool were certainly the second best side in the encounter and is not happy with the finishing in front of goal. He hailed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ben-Foster-c7445, who saved Steven Gerrard’s penalty, for making some world-class
saves throughout the course of 90 minutes.
“The players gave everything. It was one of those games where we just couldn't make the breakthrough. We weren't at our best but we were certainly on the front foot and looking to create. Full credit to West Brom, [Ben] Foster's
made some brilliant saves. It was a good away performance from them and the longer it was 0-0, the riskier it got,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the former Swansea manager refused to blame Gerrard for the defeat as the midfielder missed a penalty. Rodgers claimed that the midfielder had a brilliant game apart from the miss and he cannot be blamed for
the loss. He added that the players should have shown the hunger to score which was clearly missing.
“I can't blame Gerrard for missing the penalty; he had a fantastic game and he had the courage to step up and take it,” he concluded.
Liverpool FC will next travel to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 for their UEFA Europa League encounter against Zenit St. Petersburg on Thursday, before taking on Swansea on Sunday at Anfield. The side has winnable games in the league in the next month
and can challenge for the top four spot with some consistent performances.
