Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he does not plan on splashing money to land star players at Anfield, and will only pursue targets who can bring value to the team.
The Merseyside club spent more than 100 million pounds in signing new players under the tutelage of former manager, Kenny Dalglish over the last year and a half.
Despite flexing their financial muscle to the limit, the Reds failed to put up any notable show in the prevenient term. The failure of the expensive newcomers to deliver consequently led to the sacking of the club’s director of football, Damien Comolli,
and ultimately the Scott as well.
On the other hand, the Northern Irishman has been somewhat circumspect when it comes to spending money on new transfers. Since taking over the reins of Anfield in June, he has only made two additions to his squad – that of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-Borini-c13163 and Joe Allen – reported
to have cost the club a total of 27 million pounds.
With almost two more weeks left before the transfer window closes, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are expected to procure the services of more players in the coming days.
Nonetheless, Rodgers insisted that his strategy did not involve going lavish on claiming the signatures of some of the big names available in the transfer market. He unravelled his plan of pursuing targets who would bring extra value to the team, at the
minimal expense of the owner’s exchequer.
While talking to reporters, he said: “In professional and social life, I like to get value. That is just my nature and just my upbringing.”
“I won't pay 'anything at all costs' - absolutely not. If there is a player out there who can make a difference, we will do all that we possibly can to bring him to the football club.”
“What I won't be prepared to do is waste time, money and effort to bring in a player who won't add value to the club.”
The 39-year old also unearthed that he plans on scouting talented players from weaker clubs, who are often ignored by the top flight teams. He highlighted the fact that it was Liverpool’s history of signing young players from smaller clubs, before honing
their abilities to transform them into some of the biggest stars in Europe.
