http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager, Brendan Rodgers, believes that improving on the Reds last season’s eighth-place finish would reflect a successful campaign.
The Merseyside outfit suffered a series of dismal results in the second half of the previous term, forcing them to finish the table on the eighth place. Consequently, the former Anfield chief and Kop legend, Kenny Dalglish, was relieved of his managerial
duties.
Instead, the reins of the club were handed over to the Ulsterman, who was tasked with reviving the gloomy state of affairs of the team.
However, not much has gone Rodgers way since assuming the office in June. Under his supervision, Liverpool have only managed to chalk out 2 wins in their 11 league games. The team is currently pitted in the bottom half of the table.
Although much was expected of them to mount a challenge for a Champions League slot this time around, the former Swansea City boss has urged the fans to revise their expectations.
The manager said that his real target was to better their eighth-place standing last season, pointing out that the team are currently going through a transition period. Hence, they will require time before they can find themselves back in the upper echelons
of EPL.
“We finished eighth last year. If we can improve on that, it’ll be fantastic for us. That’s the reality of where Liverpool are I’m afraid. I knew it would be a difficult year given the expectancy in Liverpool. But our young players will get better and better,”
he told the reporters.
Liverpool are one of the most successful clubs in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, winning the league title on a staggering 18 occasions. Besides that, they have also got 5 European Cups to their name.
However, instead of looking back at their history, Rodgers stated that it was important that they set their sights on the future.
He praised the support of the fans that he has received so far and requested them to maintain their patience with the team.
“Most of us know Liverpool and its great history, but we can’t keep looking in the rear view mirror and looking back. The supporters are being very lenient with myself and the team… their support has been incredible,” he added.
