Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers, has backed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672, following the goalkeeper’s error against Hearts in a Europa League match at Anfield.
The Spanish International failed to grab an innocuous shot from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Templeton, just five minutes from time, to allow the Scottish outfit to cancel out the Reds 1-0 advantage in the tie.
However, Luis Suarez came to the rescue of the Merseysiders, as he fired home a late goal, after making a startling run from close to the half-line, to help his team claim the tie 2-1 on aggregate.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 have now qualified for the group stages of the second-tier European competition.
Nonetheless, their passage did not come in a convincing manner. Having entered the second leg with an away goal cushion, their outing on Thursday night was expected to be a relatively easy one.
On the contrary, the men in Reds found it difficult to crack open the Hearts defence at their own backyard. Their cause was not helped by the Spaniard’s howler, which almost sent the fixture into the extra time.
Rodgers, however, had only charitable views about the 29-year old. Although his error could have triggered an early exit for the Reds from the competition, the Northern Irishman defended the veteran shot stopper, and insisted that even the best players in
the world can make mistakes.
He also highlighted the fact that goalkeeping is not an easy http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, as one does not get a second chance to make up for their error.
“Unfortunately for goalkeepers it’s part and parcel of the game. There’s no blame attached – unfortunately for goalkeepers they make a mistake and sometimes it leads to a goal,” he told the reporters.
“An outfield player makes a mistake and they’ve got their mates to recover. It will happen sometimes but we move on.”
Even though the former Swansea boss confessed that his side made life difficult for themselves, he went on to praise their fighting spirit for bouncing back, after conceding a goal late on in the game.
He also claimed that the entire squad was gelling well with time, and lauded Suarez for netting an outstanding goal.
“They’ve given me everything and as each day goes on we’re getting closer as a group…We came back and Luis’ most difficult chance he took, a wonderful run and finish. We probably could’ve put the game to bed earlier.”
