http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager, Brendan Rodgers, believes his side were heading for an ‘exciting’ second half of the season based on their recent performances.
The Northern Irishman was of the opinion that their shock 3-1 trouncing by Aston Villa – who took a beating of a lifetime from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 last week in an 8-0 defeat – was a hiccup. Otherwise, he claimed that the team had shown gradual improvement and could
unsettle the balance of the top four slots in their favour in the second half of the campaign.
The Reds only managed to chalk out their first league win of the season in their sixth match, having suffered disappointed losses against rivals Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 early on.
However, the Anfield outfit have since gone from strength to strength, making marked improvement. In their last five matches, they have collected 4 wins, including a comprehensive 4-0 triumph over Fulham at home last week.
The team’s recent upsurge has enabled them to crawl their way up into the top half of the table.
Nonetheless, Rodgers has claimed that Liverpool’s graph has been on the up over the last couple of months – an indication of the improvement that they have shown.
He said that their defeat against Aston Villa was a one-off thing, and was glad with the way his side responded in the Fulham game to shrug aside their disappointment.
“Last week we had a clear week – that is the first time we've been able to work right the way. You saw the reaction of the players to that against Fulham,” he told the reporters.
“Of course you always want to be better. Apart from the Aston Villa game we've been improving steadily throughout the season. If we keep making progress it'll be an exciting second half of the season.”
The Reds will make a difficult visit to the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday to take on a gritty Stoke City side. The Potters are yet to taste defeat at their own backyard this term and are tied on points with Rodgers’ men.
