The incident was condemned by Sir Alex Ferguson, who recently issued a letter to the United fans, urging them to refrain from making any jeers and chants against Liverpool.
Following the appeal by the Old Trafford boss, Rodgers also called upon the fans not to aim any jibes at United, and insisted that both the sides should go ahead with the game in a dignified manner.
“There has been dialogue all week. There is respect in terms of the traditions of both clubs,” the Northern Irishman told the reporters during an interview.
