Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, was over the moon after his side secured a comeback from behind win against West Bromwich Albion in a Capital One Cup fixture at the Hawthorns on Wednesday.
The victory served as sweet vengeance for the Reds, who suffered a heavy 3-0 loss on the opening day of the season against the same opposition.
It also lifted the beleaguered morale of the team, who experienced a disappointing defeat at the hands of bitter rivals, Manchester United, on Sunday.
The Northern Irishman, who took charge of Anfield in June, is vying to implement his possession retaining and fluent passing playing philosophy at the Merseyside club.
Although the Reds have got off to a shaky start this campaign, the 39-year old feels that his side have come a long way since their opening day trouncing by the Baggies.
He also claimed that their win on Wednesday was ‘symbolic’, as it was an indication that they were on the fast track towards improvement.
“I think it was a symbolic night because it shows how fast we are moving as a group,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“How we have progressed from our first day of the season here, when we were a wee bit disjointed and players did perhaps not quite understand my methods and what I wanted.”
Rodgers introduced the 16-year-old Jerome Sinclair as a substitute late on in the game, making him the youngest ever Liverpool player to feature in a professional match.
Although the Ulsterman was encouraged to see the performance of the fledgling, he insisted that the forward needs to work hard to claim his place in the team’s regular fold.
“He’s a good kid. I've worked with him a number of times so far and he's really focused with good concentration. He wants to learn and once you have that hunger, you can take it a long way,” he added.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 may have made an impression in the League Cup on Wednesday, but their league form still remains an area of concern for the club.
The Reds, whose previous season is viewed as one worst in their history, were phenomenal in the domestic cup competitions.
Hence, the team’s progression can only be gauged on their league performances. And on that score, they are still lagging behind their desired goals.
