Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, was glad to see his team record their first league win at Anfield against Reading on Saturday.
The Merseyside outfit, who had not recorded a single win at home before the game at the weekend, narrowly edged the Royals to go 12th in the league table.
Raheem Sterling notched up his first competitive goal for the Reds in the first half, after being sent through by a cheeky Luis Suarez pass. The goal proved to be decisive as Rodgers’ unit resolutely weathered a late onslaught from Reading and ended their
dismal run of home results, which has now seen them secure just three wins at Anfield since the turn of the year.
Liverpool now have 9 points from their 8 games and trail behind leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, by a hefty margin of 13 points.
Nonetheless, the Ulsterman let out his elation after seeing his team break their EPL duck at home this term.
The 39-year old insisted that they have been unlucky at times not to get the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 done earlier despite putting up impressive performances, but feels that the win on Saturday will serve to lift the confidence of both, the team and the fans.
“I’m very pleased for the players and the supporters; it’s been a long time coming to be honest,” he told the reporters.
“We should have had three points here long before today but on the back of an international break and players travelling all around the world I thought it was a terrific performance.”
Liverpool were the dominant side from the start till the end. All in all, the Anfield outfit fired 27 shots at the Royals goal and enjoyed 57 percent of the possession.
However, like on countless other occasions, the strikers were guilty of profligacy, with Suarez wasting myriad goal scoring opportunities.
Rodgers, nonetheless, spoke out in favour of the Uruguayan International. He claimed that the forward remains to be the linchpin of his side’s attack and can have an occasional day off.
“He leads the line terrific for us and his movement and creativity is great. He had a nice moment with the supporters when he got brought down for a free-kick,” he added.
