Brendan Rodgers has admitted that Jose Mourinho has been the person who he has looked up to. He insisted that during the time at Chelsea, the Portuguese gave him a lot of confidence and has played the role of a mentor in his career.
Rodgers was the youth and reserve team manager at Chelsea when Jose Mourinho was the first team coach. The former Swansea City manager claimed that Mourinho gave him great belief and encouragement which is the prime reason he is
into management.
The tactician left Chelsea to become the manager of Watford and has never looked back since then. He led Swansea City to the English Premier League first division last season and was approached by Liverpool FC when Kenny Dalglish
was sacked as the manager.
“When I worked with Jose I had a great experience. He put a lot of trust in me as a young coach to work with top players. He encouraged me and gave me that belief that I could go on and become a manager but until you actually step
out there ... it's a different ball game altogether,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to the club’s official website.
The Northern Irishman stated that he likes to learn from wherever he can which is the reason he has been successful over the past few years. The manager added that he wants to bring success back to Liverpool but admitted that it
would take some time.
“One of my strengths is I learn and I like to learn from all sorts of people in all walks of life. I try to implement my own ways of making teams successful,” he concluded.
Liverpool will take on fierce rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 in a Merseyside derby at Anfield this weekend. This would be Jamie Carragher’s last derby with the club as he is set to retire at the end of the season. He will become a pundit at Sky
