Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers let out his commendation for Raheem Sterling, following the Reds 1-0 win against Hearts in a Europa League fixture on Thursday night.
The 17-year old, who made his first professional start for the Merseyside club on Thursday, appeared for the full 90 minutes. During the game, he proved to be a nuisance for his opponents’ defence time and again, and also tested goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald
with a couple of shots.
Liverpool claimed the leg 1-0, after a late own goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andy-Webster-c6056.
Nonetheless, Rodgers was all praise for the juvenile winger following the game. He felt that Sterling had shown marked improvement over the last couple of months, and was impressed by the maturity shown by him on the field at such a tender age.
He told the reporters in an interview:
“Tactically he's improving all the time, his pressing was good, he was starting to read the game and show good football intelligence, and obviously when he then has the ball he's really exciting.”
The win allowed the Reds to overcome the disappointment of their crushing 3-0 defeat against West Bromwich Albion in the league opener last week.
The Northern Irishman conceded he was relieved to see his side get back to winning ways, and insisted that a win in any competition is good enough to lift the morale of a team.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s victory came in the absence of the troubled striker, Andy Carroll. The English International has been heavily linked to reports of him decamping from Anfield this summer, and his truancy is likely to fuel further speculations about his future
at Merseyside.
However, the Northern Irishman moved to dispel this notion, by revealing that the 23-year old missed out on the action due to a hamstring injury.
He further added that even though the striker participated in the training sessions, he was not willing to risk exacerbating his injury, and wanted him to be available for their upcoming league fixture against Manchester City.
“Andy was due to start but he had a slight twinge in his hamstring and he had a scan on it…Hopefully missing the game tonight will allow him to be fit and recover for the weekend.”
