http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager, Brendan Rodgers, believes his side would have been in a much stronger position in the table had it not been for poor refereeing.
The Anfield outfit are currently tottering in the eleventh place and find themselves 9 points behind fourth-ranked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
However, the team have not received the lions share when it comes to good fortune. Earlier, they were seconded 2-1 by bitter rivals and leaders, Manchester United, at Anfield in a match which witnessed some controversial decisions by the match referee.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonny-Evans-c19085 was equally guilty. Nonetheless, the Red Devils defender escaped any punishment from the official. To rub salt to their wounds, the visitors were then
awarded a dubious penalty kick with the replays suggesting that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Valencia-c6345 deliberately went to the ground.
Later in October then, the Reds saw a late goal from Luis Suarez get wrongly disallowed by the linesman in a crunch derby match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 which would have proved the winner. Instead, the team were forced to settle for a single point.
Although the Northern Irishman does not plan on filing any a formal complaint over the standard of refereeing, he insisted that his side’s standings would have presented a much better reading had some of the decisions gone their way.
The 39-year old though was confident that they can still mount a challenge for a top four place, and praised the team for showing marked improvement over the last couple of weeks.
“We know we’re not too far away – we’re very close to arriving in that zone,” he told the reporters.
“You only need to look at some of the things that have gone against us this season, in terms of goals that were disallowed.”
“If you take those points alone, that would have shot us right up there… We’re just going to take care of our own game and keep progressing. We know we have the qualities.”
The Merseyside club will square off against Tottenham Hotspur away from home at Wednesday, aiming to better their recent impressive unbeaten streak of eight matches.
