Anfield boss, Brendan Rodgers revealed that he would love to see Maxi Rodriguez extend his stay at Liverpool, as he felt that the Argentinean International has still got a lot to offer to the Reds.
The neglected winger, who managed to appear just 20 times in all competitions last season, has been heavily linked to make a return to Newell’s Old Boys this summer, after remaining on the sidelines under the former manager, Kenny Dalglish.
However, Rodgers who earlier stated his aim of building the squad, not ‘breaking it, revealed that he plans on making use of the player’s immense experience with the Reds, and would love to see him by his side as they head into the coming season.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I have known about Maxi for a long time. He is experienced, a very good player and he will understand 120 per cent about the way I want us to play.”
Nevertheless, the Northern Irishman conceded that he will need to address the player’s apprehensions if he is to convince him into penning a new contract with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
He also caste light onto the reality that Rodriguez’s apparent desire to part ways with the Reds was not just related to his lack of playing time on the field. He pointed out that ever since he arrived at Anfield, he has been experiencing communication problems
and his family has also found it difficult to settle in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
The winger’s contract is set to expire by the end of the upcoming season. However, according to some reports, he is holding discussions with the Merseyside club to discuss the option of his contract being revoked this summer.
Even if the Liverpool boss is able to persuade Rodriguez against decamping from Anfield, the player is still expected to struggle to force his way into the starting eleven.
Nevertheless, Rodgers insisted that Rodriguez could bring extra value to the team as they set out to reverse their fortunes this coming season, and felt that if his concerns were expunged, he himself would fancy a stay at Merseyside.
“Whether it was starting or coming off the bench, he would be very good for our squad, because he understands what we want.”
