Swansea City manager, Brendan Rodgers heaped praise on his side on making a remarkable return to the Premier League, following their 1-0 win against Liverpool in the final game of the season at the Liberty Stadium.
The Welsh side finished ahead of Norwich City and Sunderland at the eleventh place in the final standings, after a late strike from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Graham helped them eke out a deserving 1-0 win against the Reds on Sunday.
The win also helped them sign-off from the current season on a high. During their splendid Premier League campaign, they managed to beat the likes of title winners Manchester City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, and also gave a tough run for the money to the other top teams.
The Swans boss attributed the club’s success in their first Premier League season to the player’s hard work and determination, and mentioned that wins against the top flight clubs has boosted their confidence, ahead of the next season. He also believed that
his side thoroughly deserved to win against Liverpool on Sunday, and was glad to see them conclude the season on a positive note.
He told reporters, “The players did brilliantly, their pressing and work-rate was phenomenal… We were worthy winners and it finished a brilliant season. We have kept 14 clean sheets, which is outstanding at this level and to finish having beaten Arsenal,
Manchester City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in our first season gives us a big boost going forward”
The Irishman’s impressive stint with the Welsh club has also earned him the plaudits from his peers. Earlier he was also linked to a possible move to the White Hart Lane, at the time when Harry Redknapp was tipped to take over the England’s national managerial
post.
However, the 39-year old quashed the rumours of his move away from the Liberty Stadium and vowed to repeat his side’s remarkable 2011/12 season all over again in the next term.
Rodgers is also wary of the fact that he may lose two of his key players, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Steven Caulker in the summer, as both the players have completed their loan spell at Swansea.
Nevertheless, he was optimistic over his chances of signing Sigurdsson on a permanent contract, and aimed at building a talented new squad in the summer.
He remarked, “The season has finished and it’s about planning going forward. In football terms the squad will break up as players will leave and players will come in… That’s the challenge for me, recycling the squad, retaining that hunger and giving the
players help.”
