Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, was all praise for his side following their 1-0 win over Southampton on Saturday, but feels they were unfortunate not to have bagged more goals.
The Merseyside outfit dominated the proceedings right from the start and had the visitors fighting for survival. Although the Reds enjoyed 64 percent possession on the ball and peppered 23 shots at the Saints goal, it was a late first-half header from Daniel
Agger which proved to be the difference between the two sides.
Nonetheless, the victory lifted Rodgers’ unit to eleventh place in the league standings after 15 matches. They now find themselves 7 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. It was also the first time that the team have secured back-to-back home
wins this season, having beaten Wigan Athletic 3-0 in their previous outing at Anfield.
Speaking to the reporters after the match, the Northern Irishman insisted that they were the deserved winners.
The 39-year old said that the visitors were forced into submission by his whirlwind troops, but feels that had they had more luck on their side, they could have netted a couple of more goals and made the scoreline look more ominous.
“I thought we were outstanding in the first-half, the tempo and we shift the ball and everyone was passing and moving and the creativity was there,” he said.
“Throughout the game, it’s just that little bit of luck with the final ball, and no matter how much you dominate the game, if it’s still only 1-0 going into the final 10 minutes, it’s always going to offer you that wee bit of challenge.”
Despite collecting all three points at the weekend, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 were dealt with a setback, as Luis Suarez picked up a yellow card during the second period. The Uruguayan striker handled the ball inside the opposition’s box in an attempt to direct the ball
towards the goal, which compelled the match referee to note his name in the book. The striker will now miss the next match against West Ham United on Sunday.
When asked if Suarez tried to cheat to get on the scoresheet, Rodgers refused to see it that way, but nevertheless, refrained on commenting on the matter.
