Newly appointed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers paid tributes to his antecedent Kenny Dalglish by saying that he remains the heart and soul of the club, and vowed to follow his path in order to help the Reds rediscover their lost glory.
The 61-year old Scott, who spent two managerial spells at Anfield, was fired by the club’s American based owners earlier in May in view of the Reds abject capitulation in the league during the 2011/12 campaign.
He managed the club from 1985-1991, steering them to three league titles and two FA Cup accolades. Besides, the Scott is widely considered as the greatest Liverpool player of all times, having capped a mammoth 501 appearances over a span of thirteen years.
The Northern Irishman heaped praise on Dalglish for rendering meritorious services for the cause of Liverpool, and believed that despite his second stint as a manager being one of the lows in his illustrious career, his stature and well-famed personality
remained untarnished amongst the fans.
While talking to reporters, he said: “He is the heart and soul of this club. His love for this club is unrivalled. He is the best player in the history of this club.”
However, Rodgers revealed that he had set himself the target of building something extraordinary at Anfield, and wants to go down in the history as one of the greatest Liverpool managers.
He added, “Hopefully in time people will look back at what I have achieved here and I can walk beside these people.”
The 39-year old was formally announced as the new manager of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 by Fenway Sports Group and Liverpool on Friday-bringing an end to all the rumours and speculations linked with the Anfield hot seat.
The former Swansea boss, who was tipped to one day take over a bigger http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 by different pundits and the media, was also glad to be part of a club with a glorious past and was wary of the tough challenges that lay in store for him. However, he pointed out
that the major problem with the Reds currently was their lack of confidence, which can be easily overcome by securing results.
He went on to praise the club’s owners for doing a fantastic job in their bid to change the situation at Anfield, and mentioned that everyone in the club are on board to take Liverpool in the right direction.
He added, “There is no doubt they want to be winners, because I do as manager, and so do the supporters and players. But in order to do that the cycle has to begin somewhere.”
