http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss, Brendan Rodgers, has revealed that Lucas Leiva could make a return to the squad within the next three weeks.
The Anfield chief said that the prolific schemer has already started to exercise during the training sessions, but still requires some time to complete his convalescence process.
The Brazilian International suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury last season, which kept him out of action for almost a period of seven months.
After playing an active part in the Reds pre-season campaign, the 25-year old was marred by another fitness problem during a game against Manchester City in August. He tore his thigh muscle in the opening minutes of the match, forcing his doctors to sideline
him for three months.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528 holds an important position in the Reds squad. His absence had a profound effect on Liverpool’s performance, who finished at a lamentable eighth-place last term. They have also struggled to build any kind of winning momentum so far this campaign.
Nonetheless, Rodgers has unravelled that the midfielder is on the quick path to recovery and will be back in the team’s fold within the next three months.
The Ulsterman also stated that the player has resumed training on the field, but his movement was still a bit restricted.
“Lucas has been out on the field in the last week or so which is great,” the manager told the club’s official website.
“He's not doing multi-directional movements yet but he's doing a lot of straight-line running and endurance work.”
“I'm anticipating maybe another three weeks but his professionalism is great and he'll get back probably sooner than is anticipated.”
Lucas was brought to Liverpool by former manager, Rafa Benitez, from Gremio in July, 2007 for an approximate 5 million pounds transfer fee. After getting off his Anfield career to a slow start, the 25-year old established himself as the mainstay in the team’s
midfield.
So far, he has capped 186 appearances for the Reds over a period of 5 years and also got 6 goals under his belt.
It is expected that the player will make a return to the team in their league game against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane later this month.
