Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, has expressed his shock over the revelations made by the Hillsborough Investigation Panel, but was happy that the truth had finally surfaced.
The panel released its findings on Wednesday, in which it unravelled that the police stationed at the Sheffield stadium were responsible for the tragic incident, and that the fans were not to be blamed for it.
In an earlier investigation report, the authorities had pinned the blame on some miscreants and drunken fans for triggering a stampede in the terrace-stand. However, the latest inquiry has revealed that both the police and the authorities fabricated the
actual facts to conceal their criminal negligence in the accident.
The discovery came as a ‘shock’ for the Northern Irishman, who took over the reins of the Merseyside club almost three months ago. Nonetheless, he was elated to know that the truth was finally out after a prolonged wait of almost 23 years, and felt that
the families of the victims were now at peace.
“Like the rest of the country I was very happy for the families and the survivors and all the people who have supported the group over the last 23 years,” he told the club’s official website.
“I was obviously shocked as well by some of the findings in the report.”
Rodgers succeeded Kenny Dalglish for the Anfield throne in June. After undergoing a successful spell at Swansea City, the Ulsterman is now aiming to revive the current dreary situation at Anfield, and to restore the Reds status in Champions League football.
When asked whether he felt extra pressure following the release of the inquiry report, the 39-year old negated the suggestion and instead insisted that his pride on being a part of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 had further strengthened.
He claimed that he was already wary of the challenging task which lay ahead of him prior to taking up the Anfield hot-seat, and he was now even more motivated to bring emotional happiness to the club’s fans.
Rodgers attended a vigil last night in memory of the 96 victims who lost their lives in the Hillsborough tragedy.
“It (investigation report) only increases my pride in managing the club. I was aware of the task well before I came here. I repeat this: Liverpool is an institution. It is a club that is worldwide and so I was fully aware of the task.”
