Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers believes that former Hoffenheim player, Gylfi Sigurdsson has made the wrong decision of turning down the Reds interest to join Tottenham Hotspur.

He stated that Liverpool would have provided him with the best opportunity to hone his footballing skills, but offered him his best wishes in his future endeavours.
The Icelandic International spent a remarkable six-month loan spell at Swansea City, as he fired 7 goals in just 19 appearances to help his side claim the eleventh spot in the final league standings.
With the midfielder becoming an integral part of the Swans unit, Rodgers who was then the manager at Liberty Stadium, masterminded his permanent transfer deal with his previous employers. However, the move was scuppered at the eleventh hour after the Northern

The popular opinion was that Sigurdsson will unite with his former Swansea manager at Liverpool, keeping in view his close relationship with the latter. The Merseyside club are reported to have even put forward an overture for the player.
However, the 22-year old finally brought an end to all the rumours and surmises about his possible future destination, as he pipped both Swansea and Liverpool to join Tottenham.
Since the Reds boss was expecting his arrival at Anfield, he let out his disappointment to lose out on the player, but felt that he was at wrong to miss out on the opportunity to represent a club as big as Liverpool.
He opined that Sigurdsson would have flourished working under him, as he was already cognizant of his ideas and style.
He told reporters in an interview, “He and I both sat and spoke and believed that playing football was going to be the most important aspect for him.”
