Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers insisted that he is willing to go the distance in order to keep Martin Skrtel at Anfield, following rumours of the defender’s probable departure from the Merseyside club during the summer.
The former Swansea City boss also unravelled that the Slovakian International was an important part of his future plans for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, and denied the reports that the Reds have been approached by different clubs for the player.
Skrtel, who has only won a single title with the Reds so far during his stay at Anfield, had expressed his desire of making a switch to a team featuring in Champions League football. He also mentioned that he had been approached by representatives from multiple
clubs, who had shown their interest in him.
However, as the Northern Irishman sets out on the task of reinvigorating the Merseyside club’s stature this coming season, he divulged that he was not willing to let go of the Liverpool’s Player of the Season for the 2011/12 campaign, and was determined
about keeping him at Anfield at any cost.
While talking to reporters, he said: “Martin has been fantastic and seems happy and contented. He fits into my plans and ideas. I will fight as hard as I can to keep the players that I want here and he is one of them.”
Rodgers also underscored that given the defender’s remarkable performances in the previous term, he was bound to be dragged in the midst of speculations, and believed that unsubstantiated rumours will continue to come forth till the transfer window closes.
Apart from Skrtel, the club’s ace striker Luis Suarez has also been heavily linked to a probable move to the Serie A side, Juventus.
When asked to comment on the Uruguayan International’s transfer status, Rodgers responded by saying that he had carried out informal meetings with the striker, and he had given him his assurance that he had no plans whatsoever of decamping from Merseyside.
“I'm confident he is really looking forward to playing for us this season and is really looking forward to this way of football. I have spoken to him and had nothing but positivity from him.”
