The English International has experienced a somewhat lacklustre start to the ongoing campaign, managing to find the back of the net just once in 13 league appearances.

Anyhow, the Anfield chief lauded the valuable contribution that Gerrard is still making despite reaching the twilight of his career. The former Swansea boss observed that the 32-year old has served the Reds with full dedication for the last 13 years, but
feels that it was time that somebody else stepped forward to shoulder his responsibility.
“Steven was outstanding last night [against Tottenham]. He's carried this club for nearly 13 years and it's about time that there was more than Steven picking up the baton of responsibility,” he told the reporters.
“He's been brilliant since I arrived here. His inspiration and leadership within the team has been phenomenal.”
Liverpool’s defeat at the hands of Spurs left the Ulsterman fuming over a couple of decisions that went against his side. The Merseyside outfit were denied a couple of penalty kicks which could have easily gone their way on any other day.
