Rodionova Sisters trounce Larsson/Woehr to cruise into semis – e-Boks Open 2012
Second seeded Rodionova Sisters, Anastasia and Arina, eased past the Swedish-German tandem, Johanna Larsson and Jasmin Woehr, in straight sets at the e-Boks Open 2012 on Wednesday. They jolted down a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory against their rivals to secure a spot
in the final four at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International event held in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Anastasia and Arina showed superb co-ordination to outsmart the Swedish-German duo in almost one and half hour. They warded off early resistance to power into the semi-finals at this indoor hard court event.
The Russian-born sisters made a sluggish start at the Farum Arena and after suffering the first blow in the second game, they fell at 0-3. Regardless of recovering in the fifth game, they lost their serve again in the very next game and trailed at 2-4. However,
Anastasia and Arina snatched their break back in the seventh game, ultimately dragging the set to the tie-breaker. They dominated in it and pocketed the opener with a 7-6(4) win.
The blooming sisters lost their track in the proceeding set and gifted away their serve in the opening game. However, they stayed focused in the match and recovered in the sixth game. Apart from exchanging another serve break, Anastasia and Arina cashed
in another break chance in the last game to pull out the set with a 6-4 score line.
Overall, the seeded Sisters committed more double faults and nudged up a lower first serve share of 56 per cent as opposed to their opponents’ 71 per cent. However, they tremendously clicked 27 out of 42 points on it and ended the match with 75 points.
Up next for Rodionova Sisters is the winner of the battle between the Latvian-Russian duo, Liga Dekmeijere and Maria Kondratieva, and the third seeds, Kimiko Date-Krumm and Rika Fujiwara.
The fourth seeded junction, Germany’s Kristina Barrois and Italy’s Alberta Brianti, also stole the show later that day. The German-Italian collaboration dumped the local wild card entrants, Karen Barbat and Mai Grage, in straight sets to progress. They brushed
off all six breakpoints they faced and capitalised on three out of seven break opportunities to manipulate a 6-3, 6-3 success.
