Rodionova/ Voskoboeva breeze past Cornet/ Rosolska into semi-final – Kremlin Cup 2011
Fourth seeded duo of Austrian Anastasia Rodionova with Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva thrashed the unseeded French Alize Cornet with Pole Alicja Rosolska in the quarterfinal of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The two squads duelled on indoor hard
courts of the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia. After one hour thirty six minutes the fourth seeded Austrian/ Kazakh duo overshadowed the French/ Pole couple by bouncing back from a set down and scored a 5-7, 6-3, 12-10 on Thursday the 20th of
October 2011.
Initiating the first round of the match was Rodionova/ Voskoboeva and both the teams managed to hold on their respect serves to place themselves at 1-1 on the scoreboard. The score progressed on even terms as the two squads bagged
two service games each and the scoreboard had tied at 3-3 by the end of the sixth game.
Matching a blow for a blow, neither of the squads wanted the other to take the lead and the score once again tied at 4-4 and then 5-5 as they held their respective service games. However, in the eleventh game Rodionova/ Voskoboeva
double faulted and endorsed a crucial breakpoint to their adversaries, who were now only a game away from victory. As the French/ Pole served for the opening game, they smashed a marvellous backhand winner down the line and bagged the opening set with a 7-5
victory.
After taking a beating in the first set, Rodionova/ Voskoboeva pulled u p their socks and initiated the second set by holding their service game to open the scoreboard at 1-0. Following in their footsteps was Cornet/ Rosolska,
who too held their service game and placed themselves beside their adversaries at 1-1 on the scoreboard. In the subsequent two games the crews broke each other back-to-back and the score tied at 2-2.
As the two once again matched an eye for an eye, the score once again tied at 3-3 as they managed to hold their service games b y the end of the sixth game. During the seventh game Rodionova/ Voskoboeva held serve and then capitalized
from a break point and took the lead at 5-3. They then served for the match and as they served, they smashed an amazing forehand crosscourt shot and bagged the set with a 6-3 score.
By the end of the first two sets each team had bagged a set apiece and opening the super tiebreaker was Cornet/ Rosolska but they double faulted and endorsed the opening point to the Austrian/ Kazakh. The players battled deuces
to score points and with a series of breaks and holds they kept matching a blow for a blow until finally the score tied at ten points each. However, Rodionova/ Voskoboeva shifted into top gear and reeled off straight two points to clinch the tiebreaker at
12-10.
The fourth seeded pair sealed their victory and reserved a spot in the semi final on the event where they will be facing Urszula Radwanska with Evgeniya Rodina.
