Former Australian wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh has offered to assist Kamran Akmal at the ICC academy. Marsh wants the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 wicketkeeper to seek his guidance in terms of improving his performance behind the stumps.
The once Australian wicketkeeper has emphasised on the attribute of consistency as the key to become a fine gloves man. Akmal was dropped from the squad in the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 this year and he has been under immense criticism for the work behind
the stumps from quite sometime now.
Marsh clearly indicated that lack of consistency on part of Akmal is the major concern, needing immediate assistance.
“I have no idea about Pakistan selection and it’s not my decision but they might have some extremely talented wicketkeepers who don’t get a chance”
were the words from Marsh that summed up the story about his perception. But he is adamant on the fact that Kamran Akmal is a good and pretty experienced campaigner behind the stumps, who at the moment, is not enjoying the best of his career. He believes
that there is room for improvement all the time and that is what Kamran needs to focus on.
Akmal, who was criticised heavily for his mistakes in the Sydney Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, was dropped on the England tour because of poor performance. He was replaced by Zulqarnain Haider but that lasted for only match, as Haider picked up an injury and Akmal
was recalled.
But after Zulqarnain’s desertion during the series against South Africa, Kamran was not recalled, giving way to his own brother Adnan Akmal as the wicketkeeper for Pakistan.
Marsh is confident that the wicket keeping style of Kamran is not the problem, only uniformity is. He says that in order to be a great wicketkeeper, one must be consistent. This seems true for Kamran as his performance varies from one match to another.
Marsh insists that Kamran should join him at the ICC academy to work on the routine, improving stability and hence ensuring a better outcome. He has further given a time frame of 3 months that will enhance Akmal’s capability behind the stumps.
Marsh is of the view that Kamran is the individual who represents the condition of the whole team at the moment. The lack of regularity has dented Pakistan cricket badly and will turn out to be costly if not worked upon soon.
