Rodney Stuckey and Wilson Chandler will not get contract extensions

Detroit Pistons point guard Rodney Stuckey and New York Knicks forward Wilson Chandler will not get contract extension before today’s deadline, their respective teams announced on Monday
1 November.

The 24-year old Stuckey, who was the Pistons’ 15th-overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft, was reportedly unhappy about not receiving an extension, but his agent, Steve Banks, reiterated that
his client is not thinking about it.

"All Rodney's worried about is the 2010-11 season," Banks said. "He'll be a restricted free agent and we'll go from there."

Banks also said that he and Stuckey know that the Pistons are in a difficult position and offering extensions to their players is highly unlikely because of the looming changes in ownership
and the uncertainties in next year’s collective bargaining agreement.

"All Rodney is concerned about is proving his worth this season. He's not bitter," Banks said. "We'll discuss this when the time arises in the summer. He understands it's a business and he
has an obligation to the Pistons."

The Pistons dropped their first three games of the season, but Stuckey displayed flashes of brilliance as he averaged 18.7 points, 7.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds per game, and is shooting 46.3
per cent from the field.

Meanwhile, the 23rd-overall pick in the 2007 Draft, Wilson Chandler, will also become a restricted free agent next summer after the New York Knicks decided not to offer an extension to the
23-year old forward also because of the new collective bargaining agreement.

"We will wait until the year is over," Knicks president Donnie Walsh said. "It has nothing to do with Wilson. We want him. It has to do with the fact that there will be a new collective bargaining
agreement and we are not sure what impact it would have."

Chandler, who was bumped out of the Knicks’ starting lineup in favor of rookie guard Landry Fields, is averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds in their first three games of the season, making
him an early favorite for the sixth man of the year award.

The 6ft 8in forward, who is also involved in Carmelo Anthony trade talks, scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in their loss against the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday 30 October.
