Rodney Stuckey’s shooting woes a cause of concern for the struggling Detroit Pistons – NBA News
For a team like the Detroit Pistons that are looking to improve on their performance from last year and building some momentum and confidence this season, the last thing they need is for one of their star players to be going into
a slump. Unfortunately, that is exactly what is happening with the team as Rodney Stuckey has been inconsistent to say the least so far in this season. Over the first three games, Stuckey has missed 22 of his 23 field goal attempts, which is a worrying sign
not just for him, but also for the team.
“Obviously he’s struggled. We need him to play better. He’s been dealing with some physical problems, but we need better from everyone. Look, in the first two games obviously we did some good things to at least have a lead in those
games but tonight it was a TKO,” said Pistons Head Coach Lawrence Frank.
Stuckey has been struggling with migraines which have limited his minutes as well as his performance so far in this season. However, he believes it is his shift from back up point guard to starting shooting guard this season that
has caused him to fall into a slump. Stuckey backed up starting point guard Brandon Knight last season and did a good job in his role, but Coach Frank decided to bring him into the starting line-up this season. And Stuckey says that he has been unable to find
a rhythm and get used to playing in his new spot.
“I feel like I’m not in a rhythm at all. I just feel like last year, I was having the ball in my hands, being able to create, [and play in] transition. Coming in [during] the second quarter and being able to use my post position
on smaller guards, I just feel like I’m not using that right now,” said Stuckey while talking to David Mayo of mlive.com
While Stuckey is hoping that the team makes some changes and takes him back to his old position, Pistons Coach Frank says that he believes Stuckey will eventually play out his slump and wants to give his new starting line-up some
time to adjust before he starts making knee jerk changes in his strategy. For Stuckey, it is an important season in his career and he will need to start performing like his old self not just for the team, but also for himself.
