Rodrigo Lopez awaiting Wednesday as the Cubs prepare to name the pitchers for rotation
With the regular season just around the corner, the Chicago Cubs pitcher Rodrigo Lopez hoped on Sunday, March 25, that he would be the part of rotation now. He was speaking to the media after he had another good game on Sunday.
Playing against the Cleveland Indians, Rodrigo Lopez went for over 4 innings, giving up only 2 two runs to bring about an emphatic 6-2 victory for the team. The pitcher has so far hurled 16 1/3 innings whereby he has given up a total of five runs.
His Cactus League appearances have enabled him to flex his muscles for the bigger games, and allowed the team an opportunity to see if he is fit and ready enough to be on the pitching mound with the regularity the starters have.
"I think I did enough and hopefully that counts for me being in the rotation," the right-hander said. "I expected today to go five, six innings and not give up anything, [which would have been] a good statement. I still think I did a pretty good job. Hopefully,
I can be in Chicago pretty soon."
Much to his contentment, the team manager has a favourable view for him. It is worthwhile to mention that the Chicago Cubs are seriously considering naming the five starters for the regular season on coming Wednesday.
"He's been throwing the ball great this whole Spring Training," Sveum said. "He's really comfortable with his slider, which made him as good as he was in '04 and '05 with Baltimore.”
Lopez, in the past, has remained a dependable pitcher for the teams he represented. For instance, in 2004, while playing for the Baltimore Orioles, he had 3.59 ERA with 14 wins to his credit, coming across as an instrumental starter and part of the defence.
Judging from the quality of pitches this spring, Lopez seems all prepared to be a regular part of the rotation. The experience that he has will be an additional advantage for him in his impressive credential. It will have to be seen what the Cubs decide
when they name the pitchers for rotation on Wednesday.
