Rodrigo Palacio to ink deal with Inter Milan in January?
According to the latest reports coming out of the peninsula, Inter Milan coach Rafa Benitez has lost patience with the woefully out of sorts striker Diego Milito. Genoa hit man Rodrigo Palacio is the man very much in demand at the moment. Palacio made his
transfer to CFC Genoa only last year following a 5 year stay with Argentinean club Boca Juniors. The forward has appeared in 36 matches but has only managed 8 goals so far. At San Siro however, he will get the service required to shine.
Diego Milito was undoubtedly the best player for Inter Milan as the former Real Zaragoza striker scored an impressive 30 goals in 50 appearances. Milito scored twice in the UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich to bring the continental trophy
to the black and blue half of Milan for the first time in 46 years. Milito has been a shadow of his imperious self this season. The striker looks off pace and his explosive finishing has gone missing. Indeed it’s the blistering form of striker partner Samuel
Eto’o that has kept Inter in the Serie A top four. Eto’o has scored 11 goals in 10 appearances so far this season.
The reports suggest Benitez has finally asked the club hierarchy to bring in reinforcements as the tactician isn’t ready to wait any further on the striker. Benitez wanted to bring Dirk Kuyt from Liverpool FC - his former club - but such a move failed to
materialise. Inter Milan also sold mercurial forward Mario Balotelli to Manchester City this summer and a replacement wasn’t brought in. It is believed the club wanted the Brazilian Philippe Coutinho to fill in for the Italian talent. However, Coutinho for
all his talent isn’t a finished article as was evident in his recent outings.
Palacio is reportedly a transfer target for several Barclays Premier league outfits and such competition will play into Genoa’s hands. Inter Milan will have to spend in the region of 10 million Euros for the services of the striker. Massimo Moratti is likely
to give the green signal if Milito fails to rediscover his form over the coming fixtures.
