According to reports, Liverpool’s Maxi Rodriguez is all set to join his former employers Newell’s Old Boys during the summer, and is expected to make a final announcement in a couple of days.
The Argentinean International was signed by the Reds in January 2010 as a free agent, after the player served out his stipulated contract with Atletico Madrid. Even though he was able to secure a place in the team on regular basis till the end of 2010/11
season, he was pushed on to the understudies’ bench, after the Merseyside club signed a handful of new players who played at his position.
The 31-year old managed to appear just 20 times for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 last season and struck 6 goals during this period.
Since the player signed a three and a half year contract with the Reds at the time of his move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011, he has still got one year left on his deal.
However, if some rumours are to be believed, the winger is carrying out meetings with the club’s representatives to ask them to revoke his current contract, in order for him to be available in the transfer market as a free agent.
Newell secretary, Pablo Morosano revealed that they have already come to an agreement with Rodriguez, but admitted that the move could only be finalized if his current employers decide to let go of the player.
While talking to reporters, he said: “We are waiting for official news about the end of Maxi's link [with Liverpool]. There is an ongoing contact and we have a deal agreed with him. But as long as his exit from Liverpool has not been settled, we cannot announce
it.”
Rodriguez made his way into the professional circuit after starting his football career at the Newell’s Old Boys youth academy. He represented the Argentine team for three years, making 57 appearances in total and netting 20 goals. He remained underused
in the prevenient season under the Reds former manager, Kenny Dalglish and his lack of playing time on the field is believed to be the reason why he is keen on parting ways with the club.
His last notable performance in the Reds shirt came against Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 in April, in which he scored a brace to help his side record a 3-2 win.
