Rodwell Can Settle Down at Everton
Young Everton prospect, Jack Rodwell, says that he always knew he was going to settle down and develop his future at the club.
Rodwell has just signed a long-term contract, which will keep him at Goodison Park for a number of years. He has already made some first team appearances but it seems he wants to focus on playing regularly for the club.
The midfield player has emerged as one of the best English prospects over the last one or two seasons and there had been hints within the media that Manchester United were going to try and sign him this summer. However, this pure speculation has been blown out of the water by the player himself.
Staying at Everton will have a number of benefits for his game, which should fill him with confidence and belief heading into the new Premier League season. However, you can never rule out that a big club will make a big bid to sign him at some point in the future.
Benefits
The main benefit for Rodwell in his current situation is the fact that he does not have to change anything about his current way of life and club life. He has grown up at the club and he knows everything inside out. He will not have to settle at a new club as a young man and he can hit the ground running next season.
He will benefit from the guidance of David Moyes who has become one of Everton's longest ever serving managers. This is a manager that is strongly tipped to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United when Ferguson finally calls time on his managerial career.
The point is that Moyes will know exactly how to use Rodwell in the Everton team and the player has never had any doubt over this. Rodwell said: "I didn't have a doubt in my mind. It's good to get it out of the way so I can focus on the new season, but it was never an issue."
Refreshing
It is highly refreshing to see such a young player and young man take the issue of his own future and speculation so easily. It would be very easy for Rodwell to get carried away with rumours that link him to bigger clubs in the media.
However, he was having none of it and it will be encouraging for the coaches and the fans of the club to see some clear vision and loyalty from such a highly rated player. It's a sign that he does not want to run before he can walk and this will be very productive for him in his immediate career.
He added: "I'm 19 so I'm still young, but my main aim is to get in the team and hold down a regular place. Last season was good for me and even if I only feature in a similar way it's not the end of the world."
Advice
Rodwell has already shown during his career that he can come up with a vital goal in a vital game against a big opponent. He may not start as many games next season as many will be thinking but track his progress because he can come up with goods if called upon.
It's unlikely that he will move to another club for the next two or three years so ignore any special bets you notice being offered for him to join a big club. This is not out of the question when his contract runs out again but it's certainly off of the table right now.
