Roelof Bouwmeester snatches overall lead of laser class: 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta – Sailing News
Tremendous sailing display presented by the Dutch sailor, Roelof Bouwmeester who finally made his way to the top podium place of the laser class of the 2012 Delta Lloyd Regatta.
The Dutch sailor had a brilliant run on the second day of the regatta and was able to claim the top spot with 15 points after taking part in six races, which also includes a discard.
The first day of the regatta was totally dominated by another Dutch sailor, Rutger van Schaardenburg, who is now placed on the second podium. He was not able to repeat his first day performance during the second day proceedings and dropped down to number
two spot as a result of some lower finishes.
The weather conditions were quite light in the beginning and the laser fleet had to wait a bit on the shore to launch their boats. However, the breeze filled in later in the day and the fleet completed their scheduled races to formulate the final results.
Bouwmeester had a slow start in the regatta as he finished on lower podiums at the conclusion of the day because he earned a fourth, a first and a 14th position which was not enough to place him in the top podiums.
However, the second day proceedings did not show the same results. The Dutch clinched two second finishes and a sixth to snatch the fleet lead from his compatriot.
