Roger Chapman and Barry Lane set to play the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters
Roger Chapman and Barry Lane tied for the second place at the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters last year, when the European Senior Tour event was held at the Duke’s Course.
This year, both the players aim to improve their track records by just one position, when they tee off on August 31, 2012.
The two players currently hold the top two spots in the European Senior Tour Order of Merit and are favourites to win the title, because of their great forms over the past few months.
In 2011, Lane entered the final round of the tournament with a shared lead and in a bid to win two back-to-back titles on the tour – he won the SSE Scottish Open, two weeks back.
However, faltering performance on the final day for a 75 dragged him down to the shared second place in the end.
This week, he once again has the chance to win two tournaments in a row, as he won the Speedy Services Wales Senior Open, held last week.
Chapman, on the other hand, won two events this year and both the victories came in the major championships – the US Senior PGA Championship and the US Senior Open.
He is currently the hottest contender for the John Jacobs Trophy because of his heavy €103,681 advantage over Lane.
According to the golf commentators, Lane holds psychological advantage over Chapman because of his recent victory on the tour.
“I’ve been playing really well this year and I’m in great form so I’m looking forward to going back to Woburn,” Lane said. “Having won in Scotland last year a couple of weeks before and then leading going into the final round I felt as though I should have
won again but that mistake on the 14th cost me and Boonchu also played well.
“It was great to win last week in Wales and it would be nice to get back-to-back titles,” he added.
Apart from winning this week, Lane also plans to make it to the top of the Order of Merit, as he missed the chance last year too, by finishing second, at the end of the season.
