Roger Charlton considering the Diamond Jubilee Stakes for Bated Breath
Trainer Roger Charlton is having second thoughts about running, Bated Breath, in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot on 19th June, 2012, which covers a distance of five furlongs - based on the soft surface of the
track.
The trainer prefers a faster surface for the five-year-old horse, who recently landed a victory over, Sole Power, in the Group 2 Betfred.com Temple Stakes at Haydock.
There at Haydock, the surface of the track was labelled firm and the runner handled it really well.
Charlton is considering the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes for his runner, the six furlong race, where the Peter Moody trained Black Caviar will compete, and the trainer believes that maybe the ground will be slightly dry on 23rd June,
2012.
Roger Charlton was keen to avoid Black Caviar, now it seems that this clash is inevitable.
No decision has been made yet, but it seems that the final decision will be made an hour before the race, the trainer commented:
"With the ground being described as soft and good to soft in places at Ascot, I will continue to monitor the situation before deciding whether Bated Breath will take his chance in the King's Stand on Tuesday or the Diamond Jubilee on Saturday.”
It looks like Black Caviar’s jockey has been booked for, Medicean Man, for the King’s Stand Stakes, and trainer Jeremy Gask is incredibly excited about this duo.
The six-year-old gelding recently claimed a placed finish in the Fly London Southend To Barcelona Handicap at Newmarket, and seems to be improving remarkably.
Gask spoke of Luke Nolen and stated that:
"He's ridden a Shergar Cup winner at Ascot so he's familiar with the course. The horse is good but we don't want it to be too soft for him. I think he's hitting form at the right time. He loves it there so you'll have to say that he grows a leg at
Ascot."
The Australian born trainer told the media that he does not know the jockey personally, but knows that he is in incredible form and seems like the right choice for his charge in this race.
